Inhale, Exhale, Repeat.....sometimes it is as simple as that. It has been scientifically proven that just focusing on your breath, even for a minute can help shift your brain from the fight and flight Sympathetic Nervous System over to the rest and digest or Parasympathetic Nervous System. By focusing on your breath, your breath automatically slows down allowing your nervous system to do the same. It's a wonderful way to influence your brain's reaction to all the stuff coming at it....news, images, loud noises, etc. and give it time to process, reflect and then react.
I have needed this reminder so much this week....it has been an intense one. The low, underlying anxiety of living thru a pandemic and getting loved ones vaccinated, exacerbated by the high anxiety of my 12 year old daughter as she underwent her first surgery (a minor surgery that was successful - alls well that ends well but darn....that yogic breathing and meditation saved me from a complete meltdown!). I have never been so grateful for my meditation practice or more in tune with its benefits and I am even more determined to keep teaching it.
New weekly Yoga Class in Hyannis, MA:
I am excited to announce that I begin teaching a new class next week on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 pm at a new yoga studio, Grace Yoga on Main Street in Hyannis. It is a combination of Yin Yoga with Yang (active) movement...a helpful class to shed the stagnation of a long winter/year and invite in Qi or energy to herald a new season and a return to "normal" life. I hope those in the local area will join me!

Weekly Yin Class at Orleans Yoga, Sundays at 11 am!
I have been teaching this weekly offering of Yin for many years now and it is an amazing way to reset and start each week fresh. This Sunday, March 21st, I will be leading a "Yin Spring Cleaning" that will target the Connective Tissue throughout the whole body (neck, shoulder, spine, hips, legs and feet...yep the whole body!).
